FAQs

Where do I find my contract?

Your contract is available via our digital platform. You will also be asked to agree to it at your initial registration meeting.

Do I have to pay for a new DBS certificate?

It depends. If you have a current DBS Enhanced Disclosure certificate registered with the Update Service, then you will not need to pay for a new one.

If not, then yes. But we can process a new DBS for you, but you will have to pay for it. Registering your DBS with the Update Service means any employer can use the DBS, and it will never expire.

Do I need to give you notice if I leave?

No. You are under no obligation to give us notice.

But if you have a future booking, we’d be grateful if you could give us a week or two before leaving, so we can ensure that class or nursery can have a suitable replacement.

What are my obligations when booked?

Be professional. Be polite. And ask for help from senior managers or headteachers when needed. This is how you represent yourself and Humly well.

  • Nursery Nurses may be asked to help with cleaning and changing nappies, plus learning through play with the children’s curriculum.
  • Primary teachers are asked to do marking at the end of the day, and may need to cover PE, so have a pair of trainers available.
  • Secondary teachers are asked to cover a subject specialism and will generally follow a school timetable. Ask the head of department if you have any questions.

All educators should understand the Behaviour Management Policy, Safeguarding Policy, and H&S Policy of the school or nursery before you arrive at your booking. So please ask if something is not clear. It’s also important to understand any children’s additional needs and marking policy if required.

What are Humly’s business hours?

7 am – 6 pm Monday – Friday. But when it comes to booking your next job, we have no business hours. They are accepted via our digital platform or app any time, day or night.

What should I do if I am worried about a student/child in my care?

Please speak to the site’s Safeguarding Officer and give them all the details of your concerns. If they are not available, leave a confidential, written note.

Is there someone I can call at Humly if I need help?

Yes! There is always someone on the other end of the phone call during business hours when you need us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Do I have to pay for my annual Safeguarding training?

No. We provide FREE Safeguarding training and many more subject areas. However, as annual safeguarding training is required to be compliant to work, you are expected to complete this in your own time and keep it up to date.

What makes Humly better than a traditional supply agency?

Humly empowers educators. You can see every job that fits you. You can apply to them. And you can book them. It’s simple – with Humly, you’re in charge of your career.

Where do I download a copy of my QTS or Induction certificate?

This link enables you to download a copy of your QTS or Induction certificate

Choose Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): qualify to teach in England. Then scroll down to the subsection Teachers who trained in England. Click the teacher self-service hyperlink, input your details, and submit.

Then please download your certificate and email it across to us.

Can I be a supply educator without a teaching degree or nursery qualification?

Yes. But what you do need is around six months of suitable experience. Maybe that’s supervising children in a sports setting or in a religious environment. Experience comes in many forms, but if you’re not sure — just apply. Our Talent Success Team will be in touch, and we can work together to see your experience works.

When do I get paid?

Every Friday in arrears. So if you worked five days last week, you get paid for them this week – on Friday.

The school or nursery wants me to come back. What should they do?

Tell them to request you the next time they book. You will get a push notification before everyone else and have at least 90 minutes to accept it. If you’ve already talked to them and know you can work the day they suggest, make sure they write that in the booking. Then we can directly add you to the booking.

If my booking is cancelled, can I get a new one?

Yep! Simply check the app to find another booking you’d like to take. And go get it!

How do I view bookings in the app?

You can find your booked jobs in the menu under Confirmed Jobs. Or you can also see them in the Schedule Tab.

How does payroll work?

We do everything for you. We operate a free PAYE payroll which means we deduct all income tax and NI contributions.

How do I access my payslip?

When your first payslip is due, you’ll be sent a link to MyEPayWindow.com – this is a secure online payslip portal where you’ll find your payslips and tax documents like P45 or P60.

Am I paid for my lunch breaks?

Yes. Your daily pay factors in your lunch break within the total amount.

Am I eligible for a pension

Yes, after three months of working with us, we will provide you with details for a workplace pension run by Peoples Pension. You will decide what contribution you’d like to make, and we will also make a statutory contribution.

How does overtime work?

Remember when we said no more timesheets? This is the exception. Generally, schools and nurseries make bookings that cover the total time you will be working. But if they ask you to stay longer, make sure to amend your timesheet in the app to ensure you are paid accurately.

Can I earn more money if I'm on a long term booking?

Yes, we can negotiate higher pay for long-term bookings, especially for teachers who do PPA, parent evenings and after school meetings. We are also obliged to compare you to someone employed directly doing the same job under the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), and this can sometimes mean your pay goes up after a 12 week qualifying period.
